I Cut My Own Hair Super Short Because: Quarantine

I found the courage. Not only to cut my super long hair, but to cut it super short. Into a long bob. BY MYSELF!

See how I reacted to cutting my hair myself at home during quarantine. Pretty hard stuff lol

I’ve been wanting to go for the short hair look for a while, but never found the nerve to actually do it. I kept finding an excuse to put if off. But then QUARANTINE happened. And after almost three loooong months, the guts to film the process and having only a pair of my dog’s grooming scissors, I went “what the heck.” It grows back, fast or slow, but it grows.

My hair has been this length and even longer for more than ten years. The last time I cut my hair super short was the end of my senior year of high school. I never thought I would be going back!

And guess what? I don’t regret doing it. None one bit. And girls with long, healthy hair fear the decision because it becomes a part of our identity. I don’t mean it in a shallow way. I was not every girl with long hair. When I say it becomes part of our identity, I mean the maintenance and dedication gets in the way.

For instance, I became so lazy to style my hair, even before the pandemic. With long hair comes the ease of throwing it into a bun and calling it a day. Me = frizz, fly aways, feeling hot because of some hair. Hair up = tight bun/ponytail, headaches, no effort. That’s when I listed the pros and cons and decided to not overthink it. I wanted to let, even my hair, allow me to feel a whole different vibe by changing my appearance.

With short hair, although you wouldn’t think it, comes more maintenance. But it takes shorter time, obviously. Washington, drying, straightening or curling my hair takes a fraction of the time now. My head feels so much lighter and I no longer have long ends getting in the way of my daily activities.

Enough rambling. I am so happy with this impulsive decision I made last Friday :) I cut TWELVE inches off!

I can’t believe I did it MYSELF and went THAT short…yikes!

But I love that I found it in me to do it myself. It’s time to learn to become less attached to the simple things in life. If you’re curious to try, I say go for it!
